The World Health Organization (WHO) was left without 46 million dollars due to the US aid freeze, and intended to use the funds to evacuate seriously ill patients from the Gaza Strip and rebuild the destroyed hospitals in the enclave, DPA reported, citing its representative, BTA reported.

WHO regional coordinator Rick Pipercorn told journalists via video conference from Gaza that for now its operations could still be financed with funds from other donors.

However, he said that the World Health Organization hopes that US funding will be resumed.

In January, US President Donald Trump ordered a suspension of humanitarian aid and said that every expense item would be reviewed to determine whether it served US interests.

Pipercorn said that 889 seriously ill patients have been evacuated from the Gaza Strip since February 1, including 335 children, but thousands more are waiting for help that they cannot get there. He called on Israel to allow patients to also be transferred to hospitals in East Jerusalem or the occupied West Bank, which was possible before the war.
