David Axe denies Donald Trump's claim that Ukraine is "not in a very good position", Forbes reports.
Despite US President Donald Trump's statements that Ukraine is "not in a very good position", Ukrainian troops are counterattacking on several important front lines, military commentator David Axe writes on the pages of Forbes.
A few months ago, the Russians really had the advantage, but this is no longer the case, Axe is categorical. According to him, around Toretsk in eastern Ukraine, the Ukrainians are counterattacking and advancing back into the city.
The media analyst recalled that in early February the Russians announced the capture of the city, but Russian control over it did not last long, he wrote.
“Two weeks after the Russians completely occupied the ruins of Toretsk, the Ukrainians counterattacked and quickly advanced back into the city“, Axe said, adding that he learned about this by accident.
According to him, a Russian military blogger has published a video recording that allegedly shows an unsuccessful counterattack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) against American armored vehicles on the outskirts of Toretsk. In fact, the observer writes, the video "shows Ukrainian troops in the center of Toretsk, and not only in the "border zone", as the Russian claims".
Ax also cites data from the Estonian analyst WarTranslated, which reports that fighting continues in the center of Toretsk, "the enemy is losing control" and "there are reports of a complete encirclement of the Russian occupiers in several areas".
The analyst recalled that Russian troops in Ukraine recently "changed their priority to the Toretsk axis after being pushed back from the fortress town of Pokrovsk" and this, in their opinion, is especially offensive to the Russians.
"Even reinforced with troops transferred from the Pokrovskaya Axis, the Russian regiments in and around Toretsk are retreating", the observer writes.
The situation in Eastern Ukraine
According to UNIAN, for the first time in more than a year there has been an offensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the occupied territory of Ukraine. This was reported by the former employee of the Security Service of Ukraine, military expert Ivan Stupak. According to him, for the first time in the last 16-17 months he sees how "Ukraine is starting to move forward" on its territory.
Military expert Sergei Grabsky also points to "certain initial signs" of stabilizing the situation on the front. In particular, he refers to one of the "active areas" near Pokrovsk.
In addition, the official announcement of the liberation of the village of Kotlyno in the Donetsk region served as confirmation of Ukrainian progress in the war.
Thanks to this, it was also possible to protect the Pokrovsk-Dnieper highway from fire, and then, probably, from physical control by Russian troops.
