China is preparing countermeasures in response to the threat of United States President Donald Trump to impose an additional 10 percent tariff on Chinese imports on Tuesday, with Beijing focusing on US agricultural products.
This was revealed by the Global Times, citing a "reliable source".
Beijing's response is likely to include "tariffs and non-tariff measures, most likely listing US agricultural and food products", the Chinese state-backed news agency said.
"If the US insists on imposing unilateral tariffs and officially announces the relevant measures, China will definitely take strong, powerful countermeasures", the unnamed official stressed source.
The statement from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce last week on the matter did not mention anything specific, revealing only that Beijing intends to respond to the additional duty by taking "all necessary countermeasures".
