British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that providing guarantees for Ukraine's security is crucial to achieving a “lasting peace“, so that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not have the opportunity to break a possible deal, News.bg reports.
“The way to ensure a lasting peace is to make sure that any agreement is backed by guarantees. The greatest risk of a new conflict would arise if Putin believes that he can break an agreement with impunity,“ Starmer stressed in his speech to the House of Commons.
The Prime Minister refused to comment on whether it was true that the US had stopped sharing intelligence with Ukraine. However, he stressed the importance of coordinated efforts between Washington, London, Europe and Kiev, adding that “we should not choose between the US and Europe“.
Starmer is expected to travel to Washington next week with French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
