Some results have emerged after the meetings between Russia and the United States, but a number of issues still remain unresolved. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova during a lecture within the framework of the project “Forum in the Big City“, TASS reports, BTA reports.
“There are already some decisions, but a large number of issues remain, so in this sense the negotiations are still ongoing. They have begun, there are contacts“, she emphasized.
The dialogue between Russia and the United States was renewed on February 12 with a telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US leader Donald Trump, which lasted about an hour and a half. On February 18, Russian and American delegations held talks in Riyadh that lasted 4.5 hours.
Russia was represented by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov, and Head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) Kirill Dmitriev. On the American side, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Walz, and Special Envoy of the US President Stephen Witkoff participated in the talks.
Two technical contacts followed, and on February 27, Russian and American diplomats met in Istanbul. They reached an agreement to ensure the financing of the diplomatic missions of both countries and pledged to continue the dialogue. Russian officials have proposed restoring direct air traffic between the two countries.
The United States has submitted an official note of agreement regarding the appointment of Alexander Darchiev, director of the North Atlantic Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as Russia's new ambassador to Washington. His departure is expected soon.
