France continues to provide intelligence to Ukraine, French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu said, quoted by Agence France-Presse and Reuters, BTA reports.
He made the statement a day after the United States announced that it was suspending such data sharing with Kiev. Lecornu stressed that intelligence is crucial for military operations on the front line against the Russian army.
“We have intelligence resources that we use to help the Ukrainians“, the minister said in an interview with France Inter radio.
Lecornu also stressed that France has a large enough nuclear arsenal, created at the beginning of the Cold War, to ensure strategic independence from the then superpowers – USA and USSR.
President Emmanuel Macron said yesterday that Paris is open to discussions on extending France's nuclear defense to its European partners in response to the growing threat to Europe from Russia. The issue is expected to be discussed at an upcoming meeting of European leaders, which will focus on security and support for Ukraine.
