Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said today that the EU continues to follow a confrontational course with Moscow, while the US has changed its rhetoric towards realism in bilateral relations, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
In her words, "European elites" are driven by Russophobia and the member states of the union are rearming because they are not interested in peace.
Zakharova also described the French and British initiative for peace in Ukraine as an attempt to buy time for Kiev and prevent its military collapse.
"In reality, we are dealing with an open desire at all costs to achieve a reprieve for the Kiev regime in its death throes, for the Ukrainian armed forces, in order to prevent their collapse at the front," Zakharova said. She noted that Moscow is interested in a final agreement to end the war, not a pause in the fighting.
"Firm agreements are needed to finally resolve the conflict," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman emphasized. "Any postponement or regrouping is absolutely unacceptable - it will lead to a completely opposite result," Zakharova added.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said at the end of last week that London and Paris would work on a peace agreement that they would present to US President Donald Trump. Macron explained that the two countries were proposing a partial one-month ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.
In addition, Paris and London expressed a willingness to send peacekeeping forces to Ukraine if Moscow and Kiev agreed to end the war, Reuters recalls.
Zakharova also commented on last night's speech by French President Emmanuel Macron, in which he described Russia as a threat to Europe. "He makes some completely out-of-date statements every day that contradict previous ones. "A storyteller," said the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman in reference to the French head of state.
