Belgium will continue to support Ukraine, Belgian Prime Minister Bart de Wever said after a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Brussels, BTA reports.
He stressed that European security and the future of Ukraine cannot be decided without the participation of Kiev and European allies.
De Wever called for not forgetting that Russia is the aggressor in the war, and Ukraine - the victim. He confirmed Belgium's commitment as a loyal partner to Kiev and said the government would consider increasing aid to the country.
The Belgian prime minister expressed concern about potential changes in US policy if Donald Trump returns to power. According to him, Europe urgently needs to strengthen its own defense capabilities within NATO.
He allowed the possibility of Belgium sending peacekeepers to Ukraine if a peace agreement is reached and the country is invited to support it.
Later today, Zelensky will be received by Belgian King Philippe. This will be their third meeting in Brussels after the Ukrainian president's visits in 2023 and 2024.
