Russian forces attacked the town of Dobropilya in Donetsk region late on Friday, killing four people and wounding 18, Reuters reported, citing Ukrainian regional governor Vadym Filashkin.
Russian forces carried out three strikes on Dobropilya, located north of Pokrovsk, Filashkin wrote on the Telegram messaging app.
Filashkin initially reported five killed in Dobropilya, Reuters notes.
The Donetsk region has been the scene of the fiercest fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces since the Kremlin sent its forces into Ukraine more than three years ago years.
Russian forces have been advancing slowly and steadily westward, trying to take over the Donbas region, which consists of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Filashkin also said that four high-rise apartment buildings had been damaged in the Russian attacks.
Emergency services teams are working on the scene.
Russian air defense forces shot down 43 Ukrainian drones over parts of southern Russia over a two-and-a-half-hour period tonight, the Russian Defense Ministry said, as quoted by Reuters and BTA.
A statement from the Russian ministry said the drones were destroyed between 8:15 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. local time.
Twenty-one drones were intercepted over the Krasnodar Territory.
Nine drones were destroyed over the Bryansk region, the defense ministry said. Bryansk region governor Alexander Bogomaz said six drones hit the town of Starodub, which is located near the border with Ukraine. One woman was injured and a fire broke out at an industrial plant. Local residents had to be evacuated from nearby residential buildings.
