The Russian armed forces announced that they had repelled three Ukrainian counterattacks in Kursk region, DPA reported, BTA reports.
In addition, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that its troops had regained control of three more villages that had been captured by Ukrainian troops in the region – Malaya Loknya, Cherkasskoye Porechye and Kositsa.
In August last year, Ukraine launched a surprise offensive and occupied part of Russia's Kursk region, which attracted Moscow's attention as it led an invasion of Kiev, which has now been going on for four years.
However, military observers believe that the territories gained by Ukraine in the Kursk region will soon be lost, DPA notes.
At the end of last week, Russian troops intensified their attacks in the Kursk region and achieved successes. The logistics of Ukrainian units have been seriously disrupted by constant Russian shelling and drone attacks.
According to independent Ukrainian experts, less than 300 of the initially captured 1,200 square kilometers in the Kursk region are still under Kiev's control.
Nevertheless, Ukraine continues to strike targets in Russia. Drones attacked a Russian oil refinery in the Samara region overnight, Ukrainian authorities said.
