At least five soldiers were killed today in a bomb attack carried out by the rebel group "Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia" (FARC) in a southwestern region of the country, strategic for cocaine production. This was reported by Agence France-Presse, BTA reports.
"At this stage, information has been received about five deaths", said Lieutenant Alejandro Silva, quoted by AFP.
Colombian Defense Minister Pedro Sanchez condemned on the social platform "Ex" (formerly Twitter) "the indescribable terrorist attack by the Front "Carlos Patiño" (as the FARC movement is known - ed. note)". The attack took place in the village of Esperanza, Cauca department, against an army camper that was traveling to another town.
The Cauca department area is known as one of the main centers for cocaine production and trafficking in Colombia and is often the scene of clashes between authorities and armed groups.
