Russian troops have reached the center of the Ukrainian-occupied city of Sudzha in Russia's Kursk region, DPA reported, citing Russian state media and military bloggers, BTA reports.
Russian troops raised the Russian flag over the city hall, RIA news agency reported, citing an army commander.
Sudzha was the most important settlement in Kursk region that fell under Ukrainian control during the offensive launched by Kiev in August last year. Then Ukraine managed to seize over 1,000 square kilometers of the border area. The Russian army has been waging heavy fighting there for months, including with the support of North Korean soldiers, in an attempt to regain territory, DPA notes.
Ukraine recently withdrew its forces from several villages.
There has been no comment from the Ukrainian side on the situation with Russian troops in Sudzha at the moment.
Meanwhile, four civilians were killed and two wounded in a Ukrainian attack on a feed mill in the Kursk region, Reuters reported, citing the regional governor.
Three men and a woman who worked at the mill in Kozyrevka were killed, regional governor Alexander Khinshtein wrote on "Telegram". One of the wounded was taken to hospital, he added.
