Switzerland is closely monitoring the impact of new US tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump and continues to seek dialogue with his administration, the Swiss government said, quoted by "Reuters", reports News.bg.
The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) stressed that Switzerland and the US are close economic partners and expressed a desire to maintain "the best possible market access".
"Switzerland continues to seek talks with the Trump administration with a view to further strengthening and deepening bilateral economic relations," SECO said in a statement.
The statement was in response to a query from "Reuters" about the new US tariffs that have already come into force, and whether Switzerland plans to take retaliatory measures, similar to the European Union.
The Swiss government said it was closely monitoring the potential consequences of the tariffs and analyzing their impact on the Swiss economy.
"Switzerland values economic freedom, entrepreneurship, adequate regulation and market-oriented economic policy. We remain committed to these principles," SECO added.
The US is a key market for Swiss goods – in 2024, almost 19% of the country's exports were destined for the US market.
