The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Alexander Sirsky commented on the situation in the Kursk region of Russia. According to him, active fighting continues in the suburbs of Sudzha and the areas surrounding the city.

This is reported by Channel 24, quoted by FOCUS, referring to a statement by Sirsky from the evening of March 12.

Alexander Sirsky said that the Russians are using airborne units and special operations forces to break through the defense, displace Ukrainian troops from the territory of the Kursk region and transfer the fighting to the territory of the Sumy and Kharkiv regions.

''Trying to achieve political goals at all costs, the enemy has already suffered and continues to suffer significant losses in Kursk'', the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine emphasized.

According to him, since the beginning of the Kursk operation, the total losses of the Russian troops have amounted to over 54.9 thousand people. Of these, over 22.2 thousand were killed, and 31.8 thousand were wounded. 942 Russian soldiers were also captured.

Syrsky emphasizes that his priority was and remains the preservation of the lives of Ukrainian soldiers. To this end, the units of the Defense Forces, if necessary, maneuver to more advantageous positions.

Important for the preservation of Ukrainian lives is the use, first of all, of an unmanned component, as well as artillery fire weapons, the commander-in-chief wrote.

According to him, as of 6 p.m. on March 12, eight Russian assault operations in the Kursk direction were repelled.
