The behavior of European leaders who support the idea of a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, despite years of calls for the continuation of the armed conflict, can be compared to the rotation of weather vanes. "This is an integral part of the character of the European political establishment," Russian President Dmitry Peskov's press secretary told VGTRK journalist Pavel Zarubin.

"You know, in European cities - in old Riga, in Tallinn - weather vanes on roofs are very popular. And, apparently, from childhood, when people see these weather vanes, a certain mimicry arises. "That is why weather vane-like behavior, unfortunately, is such an integral part of the behavior of the European political establishment," he said, commenting on statements by European leaders in support of the idea of a ceasefire in Ukraine.

On March 11, delegations from the United States and Ukraine held talks in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). The joint statement following their results stated, in particular, that Kiev was ready for a 30-day ceasefire and the signing of an agreement with Washington on minerals. The idea of a ceasefire was supported by French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a press conference on March 13 after talks with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko that Moscow agreed with the proposals to end hostilities in Ukraine, but they must lead to a long-term peace and eliminate the root causes of the crisis.
