The Palestinian movement Hamas is discussing with mediators a plan to resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip, proposed by the US President's special envoy Stephen Witkoff. This was announced by Hamas spokesman Abdel Latif al-Kanua.
“Witkoff's proposal and some other ideas are being discussed with mediators, contacts to reach an agreement have not been terminated“, he wrote on his Telegram channel. According to him, the movement is “ready to accept any jointly agreed format for governing the Gaza Strip“.
Hamas does not claim to participate in governing Gaza, but is interested in a national consensus.
Earlier, Witkoff said that Washington, with the assistance of Qatar, is negotiating with Hamas to stop Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip and end the conflict through dialogue. He specified that the United States considers it acceptable for Hamas to maintain its presence in the Gaza Strip in the event of the movement's demilitarization.
