At least 11 people, including five children, were killed on Wednesday morning in Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip, Qatari television channel Al Jazeera reported.
According to the media, the Israeli military carried out strikes using aircraft, drones and artillery on the cities of Jabaliya, Beit Lahia, Khan Yunis, Rafah and the Al-Bureij refugee camp.
On March 18, the Israeli army renewed military operations in the Gaza Strip, launching massive strikes against the enclave, thus breaking the ceasefire established in January this year. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu justified this with the rejection of the radical Palestinian movement Hamas from the proposals made during the negotiations by the mediators and the special envoy of the US President Stephen Witkoff, stating that the goal of the operation in the sector is to release all hostages.
The radicals accused Israel and the US of the renewal of hostilities.
The Fatah movement, led by the leader of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), Mahmoud Abbas, calls on the radical group Hamas to relinquish control over the Gaza Strip.
This was stated by the spokesman for Fatah in the Gaza Strip, Munter Hayek. His words were quoted by WAFA news agency.
Hayek stressed that Hamas' presence has become dangerous for the cause of the Palestinian people's struggle for their rights and the movement must reconsider its position and listen to all voices heard in the Gaza Strip.
“We call on Hamas to listen to the voice of our people by withdrawing from the governmental scene in the Gaza Strip to allow the PNA and the Palestine Liberation Organization to fulfill their duties“, said the Fatah spokesman.
The Gaza Strip came under Israeli control after the Six-Day War in 1967, after which the construction of Israeli settlements began there. In 2005, Israel completely withdrew its troops from the Gaza Strip and evacuated all Jewish settlements there. Control of the Gaza Strip was then handed over to the PNA, led by Abbas, which also governed the West Bank. However, in the first elections for the Palestinian parliament, representatives of the radical Hamas movement won, entering into a confrontation with the more moderate Fatah organization, which led to a division between the factions, and the radicals established complete and sole control over the Gaza Strip.
