Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today accused his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin of trying to divide Europe and the US, after in recent weeks he has become closer to US President Donald Trump, after more than three years of war in Ukraine, Agence France-Presse reported, quoted by BTA.
Putin “wants to divide Europe and the US“, the Ukrainian president said at a press conference in Paris after a meeting with Kiev's Western allies.
Zelensky called on the West to prevent any lifting of sanctions against Russia, which Moscow insists on as a condition for the ceasefire in the Black Sea to come into effect. The Ukrainian president stressed that such a step would send "very dangerous signals".
The signals we heard in Saudi Arabia about the possible lifting of sanctions are very dangerous, the Ukrainian president said in Paris.
He also said that the US was "constantly" changing the terms of the proposed deal for Ukrainian rare earths, but added that he did not want Washington to think that Kiev was against the deal.
Zelensky stressed that his country needed the US to be in a strong position during the negotiations.
