A Ukrainian MP said that the draft agreement with the US on valuable Ukrainian raw materials is “horrible“ and is not in Kiev's favor, focus.de reported.
Yaroslav Zheleznyak said that he had received a “58-page document“, the text of which seriously worried him. According to him, this is no longer a framework memorandum of intent, but a very clear agreement that is detrimental to the Ukrainian state.
Zheleznyak from the “Holos“ party called on the Ukrainian parliament not to ratify the agreement. The Ukrainian MP claims that the US is practically demanding all of Ukraine's minerals, not just rare earths.
According to the document, a special fund will be created that will be managed by five people - three of whom are Americans with "full veto power".
The agreement applies to all raw materials throughout Ukraine - so in addition to minerals, raw materials such as oil and gas are also included. In addition, the contract covers the entire territory of Ukraine and includes existing projects.
The extraction can be carried out by state and private companies, and all proceeds will be immediately converted into international currencies and transferred abroad. If the funds do not arrive, the Ukrainian side will be responsible.
The most worrying thing for Kiev, according to Zheleznyak, is that the document does not mention security guarantees from the US anywhere. This was the main condition that Volodymyr Zelensky demanded from Donald Trump during his visit to the White House. Security guarantees have also become a bone of contention between the two sides.
“I hope that the Ukrainian side will demand and implement significant changes. But the text I saw is simply terrible“, he said. The German media emphasizes that this is not a final agreement and Kiev still has the opportunity to demand more favorable conditions for itself.
