US President Donald Trump said that Washington will soon announce the introduction of tariffs on pharmaceutical products.

“We will announce this soon“, Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One. According to the American leader, he intends to “bring the production of drugs and pharmaceutical products back“ to the US.

The head of the White House did not specify what the amount of the tariffs could be. “But this will be enough for pharmaceutical companies, drug manufacturers, to move production here. I don't want to rely on other countries for this anymore, as I did during the COVID-19 [pandemic]," he concluded.

Trump stressed that he was open to making tariff deals with certain countries, including the UK. "They want deals. That's possible if we get something out of the deal," the president noted. According to him, such agreements can be made, but only after the tariffs go into effect.

On February 10, Trump ordered a 25% tariff on all steel and aluminum imports. The decision, which took effect on March 12, applies to supplies from Australia, Argentina, Brazil, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Canada, Mexico, South Korea and Japan. On March 4, the US administration imposed a 25% tariff on almost all imports from Canada and Mexico, and also raised tariffs on goods from China from 10% to 20%. On March 6, Trump signed executive orders to delay until April 2 the imposition of 25 percent import tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico that fall under the trilateral trade agreement. He warned that there would be no further easing after that date.
