The US administration expects Greenland to gain independence and peacefully join the US. Washington does not intend to use military force for this.

This was stated by US Vice President J. D. Vance during his visit to the US military base in Pitufik in Greenland.

According to Vance, China “is sending significant military resources to the Greenland area and in the medium term the US will respond to this challenge. “We will send our resources here”, he added.

“We believe that what will happen is that the people of Greenland will decide to become independent from Denmark through self-determination. And then we will negotiate with him," he said at a press conference after his visit to the island.

“We do not believe that military force will be necessary. Trump believes and believes that Greenland is an important component of security not only for the United States but for the world [as a whole]“, Vance stressed.

Danish authorities are not taking enough measures to ensure the security of Greenland against the background of Russian and Chinese interests in the region, Vance said.

“We know that Russia, China and other countries have a huge interest in the Arctic corridors and the Arctic sea routes and the mineral resources in the Arctic territories. We need to ensure that America leads in the Arctic, because we know that if America does not do it, other countries will fill the gap that we leave“, he said.

“Denmark has failed to do anything in some cases regarding Greenland over the past 20 years. "Unfortunately, this place, this base, this area is less secure than it was 30 or 40 years ago because some of our allies have fallen behind as China and Russia have become increasingly interested in Greenland."

We know that too often our allies in Europe are falling behind. They are falling behind in terms of military spending, and Denmark is not keeping up with the resources that are needed to maintain this base, to maintain our troops, to protect the people of Greenland from many of the aggressive encroachments that Russia and China and other countries are making," Vance said.

The United States intends to expand its military presence, including naval, in the Greenland area in the future, but Washington has no intention of starting to act in that way right now. This was announced by US Vice President J. D. Vance.

According to him, "this is necessary" because Russia and China are increasing their military presence in the region. "The United States must do what I know is in our best interest, which is to ensure the security of Greenland," the vice president added. He noted that the United States "cannot ignore the claims of powerful countries when their ambitions grow."

He stressed that the United States "wants to maintain good relations with everyone, including, to the extent possible, China and Russia."

The vice president went on to criticize the actions of the Danish authorities, who he said "have not invested enough in the infrastructure" of security on the island. "Denmark has not done a good job of ensuring the security of Greenland. Our message to Denmark is very simple: You have not done a good job with the people of Greenland. You haven't invested enough in the people of Greenland and you haven't invested enough in the security architecture," he added.

Vance said the Black Sea ceasefire agreements are almost ready.

We certainly have a ceasefire in terms of energy infrastructure. We have a Black Sea ceasefire for merchant ships, which is almost ready. And when we get to that point, we will work on the next phase of the ceasefire in Ukraine," he said.

Vance stressed that in general Washington is optimistic about the progress of negotiations to resolve the conflict in Ukraine and recalled that it began under the administration of Joe Biden. “For the first time in almost four years, we have a truly favorable opportunity to achieve a peaceful settlement,“ Vance is convinced.
