The head of the Gagauzia autonomous region of Moldova Evgenia Gutsul called her arrest political revenge and said that the region will not obey the government in Chisinau.

"Today they threw Gagauzia's head behind bars. Tomorrow they will come for anyone who dares to think differently. This is an open attempt to suppress autonomy, this is a signal: "we are masters, and you are subordinates". But Gagauzia will not obey. We are not slaves," Gutsul wrote on his Telegram channel, noting that the Action and Solidarity Party, which controls the parliament and government of Moldova, is behind the court's decision.

“What is happening today is not justice“, the text notes. “This is revenge. Frank, cynical and merciless. The court's decision to keep the head of Gagauzia, Evgenia Gutsul, in custody for 20 days is not only a legal absurdity, but also human cruelty. The mother of two minor children, the youngest of whom is only two years old, is detained for political reasons.”

Her only fault, the text says, is that she “had the courage to defend the interests of her people and did not obey the dictates of the ruling party“. “This is an open attempt to suppress autonomy“, the appeal emphasizes. “But Gagauzia will not submit. Evgenia Hutsul is not alone. The entire people of Gagauzia stand behind her.”
