The Palestinian radical movement Hamas may release several hostages to secure a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, the Israeli television and radio company Kan reported, citing its own informed sources.

The media reported that Hamas is ready to release several hostages, including an Israeli soldier and American citizen Idan Alexander, in exchange for a ceasefire during the holiday.

The radicals need a ceasefire for several days to quell the protests that Palestinians organized this week against Hamas' rule in the Gaza Strip, the sources said.

On March 18, the Israeli army resumed military operations in the Gaza Strip, launching massive strikes on the enclave, thus violating the truce established in January. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office explained this by Hamas's rejection of the proposals made during the negotiations by mediators and the US President's special envoy Stephen Witkoff, stating that the aim of the operation in the sector was to free all hostages. The radicals blamed Israel and the US for the renewal of hostilities.

At the end of the fasting during Ramadan, Muslims celebrate the holiday of breaking the fast, or Eid al-Fitr in Arab countries. This is the second most important holiday after the Eid al-Adha holiday.
