Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao met with European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maroš Šefčovič. The two discussed a level playing field in trade, Reuters reports.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce described the meeting as a pragmatic exchange of views.
According to Šefčovič, it is necessary to ensure that EU-China relations are based on a level playing field in terms of trade flows as well as investment, with symmetrical opening of markets.
Senior officials in Beijing and the EU are seeking common ground despite long-standing trade disputes, as the US administration of President Donald Trump threatens to disrupt transatlantic ties and global trade.
