The Security Service of Ukraine captured three people who worked for Russian intelligence, whose main task was to coordinate strikes on Kiev, targeting defense plants and weapons depots, Ukrinform reported, citing a press release from the SSU, BTA reports.
It was found that the three acted independently, but were supervised by the same Russian intelligence officer, whose identity has been established.
One of those captured is a Russian, a "sleeper spy" who was activated after the full-scale invasion. To correct the Russian strikes, he set up an observation post on the roof of a high-rise building in Kiev, using his friendship with a representative of the building's management who had the necessary keys.
The other two are former and current employees of Ukrainian defense companies. One of them collected information about the consequences of missile strikes, the number of employees in factories, repair bases, etc., and the other received information about potential targets from colleagues without revealing his intentions to them.
Ukrainian counterintelligence detained the suspects after documenting their criminal activity.
During the strikes, computer equipment and mobile phones with intelligence reports were confiscated. A quadcopter was also confiscated, which one of them planned to use to spy on defense facilities.
The SSU has charged the three with treason, supporting and aiding an enemy force, and justifying Russian aggression. At least two of the detainees will not be eligible for bail.
Earlier, Ukrinform reported that a Russian intelligence officer who planned the murder of Ukrainian servicemen in Chernihiv region was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
