Israeli airstrike hits UN hospital in Gaza - 1

An Israeli airstrike in the northern Gaza Strip hit a hospital run by the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), DPA reported, citing the Palestinian news agency WAFA.

WAFA said displaced people were near the hospital at the time of the attack and a fire broke out in the building.

In other Israeli airstrikes in Gaza, four people were killed and rescue workers in Khan Yunis found the bodies of 12 people, including women and children, under the rubble.

The Israeli army confirmed that it had attacked an UNRWA building in Jabalia that housed a clinic. The army said in a statement that the strike targeted "Hamas terrorists" who were hiding in a command post located in the building. The military said that a number of measures had been taken to reduce the risk of civilian casualties before the strike, condemning the Palestinian group's use of civilian infrastructure. Germany, meanwhile, said it had helped 19 of its citizens and their relatives leave the Gaza Strip, having negotiated the terms of their evacuation with Israel. According to Reuters, the nineteen German citizens and 14 of their Palestinian relatives arrived in Leipzig on Sunday. A spokesman for the German foreign ministry said the operation had taken time but that they were pleased to have successfully evacuated them.
