Kirill Dmitriev: Trump accepts our position against Ukraine in NATO. We do not want sanctions to be lifted, they help us - 1

Russia's position, according to which Ukraine's entry into NATO is completely impossible, is widely recognized by the administration of US President Donald Trump.

This was stated by the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and special representative of the Russian President for economic cooperation with foreign countries Kirill Dmitriev in an interview with Fox News.

He arrived in the American capital for a meeting with the special envoy of the US President, Stephen Witkoff. Dmitriev became the first high-ranking Russian official to visit Washington for negotiations since 2022. According to CNN, the visit will be aimed at strengthening relations between the Russian Federation and the United States and finding ways to end the conflict in Ukraine.

"We should note that the administration of President Trump, the key people in the administration, are aimed at resolving the entire range of issues in Russian-American relations, they are engaged in resolving geopolitical issues and hear Russia's position on many issues", he said.

„And what is different in the administration of President Trump is that, unlike Biden, it hears Russia's position and understands its concerns“, Dmitriev noted.

"They behave extremely respectfully, they understand Russia's position, they ask a lot of questions, they find compromises. "It's getting creatively dry," he told a group of journalists in Washington.

According to him, "there is certainly a positive dynamic in relations, a number of more meetings will be needed to resolve all disagreements. But the main thing we see is the positive, creative spirit of the administration and its key representatives," Dmitriev added.

“Of course, there are disagreements on various points, but there is a process, there is a dialogue that will help overcome these differences,“ he added, and said that he had discussed with key members of US President Donald Trump's administration the restoration of dialogue between Moscow and Washington.

“Over the past two days, on behalf of President Putin, I have been holding meetings here in Washington with key members of the Trump administration. And one of the main topics, of course, is the restoration of Russian-American relations, the restoration of the dialogue, which was completely stopped and interrupted under the Biden administration,“ he added.

American companies have already lost about $300 billion in potential profits after leaving the Russian market, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund said in his interview with Fox News.

"Sanctions can be eased when these companies decide to return and take advantage of business opportunities in Russia. However, Russia is not currently setting any preconditions and is not demanding any specific relaxations in the sanctions policy," he stressed.

"The Russian economy is coping well with the sanctions imposed by the West, so the Russian Federation does not want them to be eased," the Russian President's special representative for economic cooperation with foreign countries continued in an interview with CNN.

"Many Russians believe that the sanctions have even helped the country reduce its dependence on the West. If you look at our GDP growth, last year it was 4%, while in Europe it was about 1%. And our public debt-to-GDP ratio is 18%, compared to about 100% in Europe. So the Russian economy is coping well and we do not want the sanctions to be lifted," he stressed.

According to Dmitriev, "some American companies want to return“ to Russia. "And if they want a partial lifting of sanctions as a condition for return, I think that is the right step, but in the interests of the United States itself. At this stage, we do not want to ease sanctions. We only note: if America wants more business with Russia and there are still 150 American companies operating here, 70% of which are more than 25 years old, then, of course, they can do this," he added.

Dmitriev invited his US colleagues to visit Russia.

“I hope that other Russian representatives will also be invited to the United States. We invite our colleagues to visit us in Russia,“ he said. “And this direct dialogue allows us not to distort information and to discuss all key issues very directly and clearly,” Dmitriev emphasized. He added that Moscow and Washington are discussing the restoration of direct air traffic between Russia and the United States.
