US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the US administration will receive an answer in the coming weeks whether Russia is committed to achieving peace in Ukraine, the BBC quoted him as saying.
According to him, Washington will receive an answer "in weeks, not months".
"The Russians know our position on ending the war. And from their answers we will know very soon whether they are serious about moving towards real peace or whether this is a delaying tactic," Rubio told reporters during a visit to Brussels. "If this is a delaying tactic, the president does not need it." If it's a matter of delay, President Trump won't fall into the trap of endless negotiations about negotiations.
Rubio also noted that Ukraine has "demonstrated a willingness to achieve a full ceasefire to create the conditions for negotiations." "At some point soon, not in six months, Russia and Putin have to decide whether they are serious about peace," the State Department chief noted.
"If they are committed to peace, great, we will move toward peace. If not, we will have to reevaluate our position and our actions going forward," Rubio added.
