Zelensky: Trump's tariffs are not a problem for Ukraine, minerals deal on the agenda - 1

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has downplayed concerns about the tariffs imposed by United States President Donald Trump, saying that the 10% levy on his country's goods does not pose a significant threat to Ukraine's economy, Reuters reported, quoted by BNR.

At a press conference, Zelensky stressed that bilateral trade turnover had fallen to between $3.5 billion and $3.8 billion and was not affected by the US tariff decisions.

"The volume of arms supplies does not affect this in any way," he noted, adding that Kiev had previously faced 25% tariffs on metallurgy, which were later reduced after the outbreak of the war and have since been recovered.

"These are not the volumes that we can say today have any problems. For us, this is not a problem", Zelensky pointed out.

He also indicated that he would meet with the legal committee next week to discuss the details of the draft proposal for the rare earth elements and minerals deal with the United States.

"The terms are being discussed now. At the beginning of next week, I will have a big meeting with our team, at which I will be presented with all the points that satisfy us or that will be responsible for reflecting the fairness of the deal, in our opinion. The team will inform me at the beginning of the week about this deal, about the main points in it. And then, in principle, the technical team will be ready to travel to the United States and for dialogue with American partner agencies,", he added.
