Tens of thousands came out in Washington to protest against the policies of the administration of US President Donald Trump.

The main part of the protesters gathered around the George Washington monument, but the demonstration under the slogan “Hands down!“ covered almost the entire central boulevard of the US capital between Capitol Hill and the memorial in honor of Abraham Lincoln.

According to The Washington Post, the organizers initially expected the rally in the US capital to be attended by 10 to 20 thousand people, but their total number turned out to be "five times more". Police were on duty at the scene, and several streets in the city center were blocked.

The protesters chanted against Trump, entrepreneur Elon Musk, who heads the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Treasury Secretary Scott Besant, Pentagon chief Pete Hegsett and other members of the current administration.

The disgruntled are particularly outraged by the tariffs introduced by the president, the cuts in US government departments initiated by Musk, the strengthening of the fight against illegal migration, Trump's policy regarding the conflicts in the Gaza Strip and Ukraine, and the scandal with the leak of data on US military strikes on Yemen in the Signal messenger.

The chanters accused the owner of the White House of sympathizing with "tyranny and fascism", and there were calls among the crowd for him to be impeached. Many chanted the slogan "Make Democracy Great Again" modeled after Trump's main political slogan "Make America Great Again".

The press service of the US capital's police department is not yet ready to provide estimated figures for the total number of protesters, but no arrests have been made so far.

As CNN previously reported, protests against the policies of the current administration are taking place in all 50 US states and the capital.
