Russian-American contacts may resume very soon, said President Vladimir Putin's special representative for foreign economic cooperation Kirill Dmitriev, BTA reported.
In an interview with the Russian television "First Channel" Dmitriev said the next meeting between the two countries could take place "as early as this week," TASS reported.
Dmitriev, who, in addition to being a special presidential envoy, is also the head of the Russian sovereign wealth fund (the Russian Direct Investment Fund, RDIF), visited Washington last week - the highest-ranking Russian official to do so since the start of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, the agencies noted.
During his visit, he told Russian journalists that relations with the United States were experiencing "positive dynamics."
In his latest interview, Dmitriev noted that "Russia undoubtedly still has many enemies in the American government."
"So at the moment there is little hope that dialogue has been restored," he said, adding that it is now necessary to counter "information attacks".
Dmitriev played a key role in the easing of relations between Russia and the United States. He also took part in the first round of talks with representatives of the government of US President Donald Trump, which took place in February in Saudi Arabia.
