Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he intends to discuss with US President Donald Trump the introduction of US import tariffs, as well as a military operation in the Gaza Strip. He announced this before flying from Budapest, where he was on a visit, to Washington, where he is to meet with the head of the White House.
„From here I am heading to the US at the invitation of President Trump to discuss with him, of course, these topics: the abductees, ending the victory in Gaza and, of course, the issue of tariffs, which have extended to Israel. "I hope I can help on this issue - that's my goal," Netanyahu said, in a statement released by the prime minister's office.
“I can tell you that I am the first foreign leader to meet with President Trump on this issue, which is so important for the Israeli economy. There is a long line of leaders who want to do the same for their economies. I think this reflects the special personal relationship and the special bond between the United States and Israel, which is especially important at this time,“ the Israeli prime minister added.
On April 2, the US president announced the introduction of tariffs on products from 185 countries and territories; for Israel, the tariff will be 17%. The universal tariff of 10% will take effect on April 5, the individual tariffs on April 9. On April 1, Israel abolished all remaining tariffs on imports of goods from the US.
