A four-year-old boy has survived with minor injuries after falling from the fifth floor of an apartment building in the Austrian capital Vienna, the Austrian Press Agency (APA) reports, BTA reports.
According to police, the child fell onto a wooden table located on the ground floor terrace. This is what probably softened the blow and saved his life. The Vienna emergency team that responded to the incident reported that the boy only suffered abrasions and bruises.
The incident occurred at a time when the mother was not at home. According to preliminary information, she had left the four-year-old in the care of his older brother and sister – respectively 9 and 12 years old – while she was taking another daughter to a medical examination. The 45-year-old woman, who is of Afghan origin, was charged with violating her duty to supervise minors.
Since it was initially assumed that the boy's condition was serious, a rescue helicopter was also sent to the scene. However, it later turned out that air transportation was not necessary. The child was taken to hospital by ambulance. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
