The Kremlin's First Diplomat: Europeans Are Trying to Rewrite History - 1

The European Union is trying to erase the memory of the war against Nazism and the results of World War II, but TASS's archival materials are preventing this, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is convinced.

At the presentation of the TASS photo exhibition “Their Feat is Immortal“, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, the head of the Foreign Ministry drew attention to the attempts of the West and the European Union to rewrite history.

"Under these conditions, TASS remains a reliable guardian of historical truth. "Archival materials from those years are an effective tool in the fight against falsification of history," Lavrov said.

As an example, he cited the letter presented at the exhibition from the head of the Provisional Government of Poland to the leadership of the RSFSR dated February 16, 1945, with an assurance of eternal friendship between the Polish, Russian and all peoples of the Soviet Union. According to him, "no less eloquent are the photos from the liberated European cities, where residents greet the Soviet liberating soldiers with undisguised jubilation and flowers".

"Today in the European Union they prefer not to remember such works, they try to erase this memory, but you cannot erase the fact from history", the minister noted. "Preserving the truth about the war is our common duty to those who gave their lives for peace and freedom", Lavrov is convinced.

The head of the diplomatic service believes that the TASS exhibition "can be shown not only in Russia, but also beyond its borders, using the capabilities of embassies and Russian houses", which exist in most countries.

"We consider this exhibition as a tribute to the memory of the 17 TASS employees who died in the war, as well as to our colleagues from the People's Commissariat of Foreign Affairs, who gave their lives on the battlefield, delivering diplomatic mail and accompanying foreign correspondents to the front line", Lavrov said.
