Ukraine and the United States may sign a memorandum of intent on the minerals deal currently being negotiated between the two countries today, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.
US President Donald Trump is pushing for a deal that would allow the United States to share revenues from Ukraine's natural resources and critical minerals, which he said would be a return for military aid provided by Washington to Kiev during Joe Biden's term.
Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Olga Stefanyshyna said a few days ago that the text should be changed so as not to affect previously made commitments by Kiev. According to her, this condition of Kiev is non-negotiable. Stefanyshyna noted that talks with the US are currently at a technical level.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal indicated at a press conference that his country is striving for a mutually beneficial agreement, with equal conditions for both sides. He noted that the content of this agreement is limited by the Ukrainian constitution and Kiev's obligations to the EU. Initially, the agreement was planned to be signed during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to the White House.
