The Donald Trump administration wants to convince Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop his war against Ukraine with a tempting offer, but so far Moscow has not responded, writes focus.de, citing Tagesspiegel.
Trump has the following offer to the Kremlin: stop the war and we will cooperate economically again. The White House offers Russia economic partnership, but Russia has not given up its desire to win the war and Ukraine to capitulate.
The director of Russian foreign intelligence Sergei Naryshkin recently reiterated the conditions for ending the war. They include Ukraine having a neutral status and the “demilitarization and denazification of the Ukrainian state“. Russia also wants to get all the occupied territories of Ukraine - including the areas that Moscow still does not fully control.
It has been almost three months since Donald Trump became US president again and broke his campaign promise to end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours. Apart from isolated threats of new sanctions, Washington has so far done nothing to increase the pressure on Russian leader Vladimir Putin. On the contrary: Trump has criticized Ukraine for being guilty of the Russian invasion, and has also called Zelensky a “dictator“ and publicly in the White House called him ungrateful.
The fact remains: the prospect of ending the sanctions imposed by Washington has not yet led to a halt to Russian attacks that violate international law. Military experts have long said that Putin will remain tough unless his army feels the pressure on the battlefield.
