Kim Yo-jong, vice chairman of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and sister of the leader of the DPRK, called calls for giving up nuclear weapons "an encroachment on the sovereignty" and the constitutional order of the country, the Korean Central News Agency reported.
The reason for the comment was a statement by the heads of the foreign policy departments of the Republic of Korea, the United States and Japan at a NATO meeting. Kim Yo-jong called calls for denuclearization "an impossible, deceptive dream", which speaks of the level of "anxiety" of the authorities in these countries and the "anachronism of their political judgments".
She stressed that the nuclear status enshrined in the DPRK constitution is the result of "an inevitable choice that reflects the hostile threat from external forces and the change in the modern architecture of international security".
"We are not interested in anyone's denial or recognition, we will not change our decision. This is our choice that cannot be changed by force or cunning trick", Kim Yo Jong continued. "We take this opportunity to clarify once again: the open talk before us about abandoning nuclear weapons and attempts to revive the now dead concept of "denuclearization" under any pretext constitute the most hostile denial of the DPRK's sovereignty and an attempt to force it to abandon its constitution and social system," she stressed.
According to Kim Yo-jong, the DPRK's nuclear forces "not only deter external aggression, but also contribute to ensuring regional and global security."
“The only possible option for the US, Japan and the Republic of Korea to get rid of security concerns is to completely abandon unilateral attempts to disrupt the status quo and undermine the DPRK's position, and instead try to find a way to avoid direct conflict,“ she concluded.
