Russia has extended an official invitation to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the victory over Germany in World War II. This was announced by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko, quoted by the PTI news agency, reports News.bg.

Moscow expects Modi to attend the parade, which will be held on May 9. “The invitation has already been sent“, Rudenko said.

According to him, Russia has invited the leaders of several “friendly countries“ to join the Victory Day celebrations this year.

Narendra Modi visited Russia in July 2024, his first visit to the country in five years. His previous visit was in 2019, when he participated in the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.

During his last visit to Moscow, Modi invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit India. Putin has accepted the invitation, but an exact date for the visit has not yet been set.

The two leaders maintain regular contact, speaking on the phone several times a year. They also meet in person at international forums and events.
