The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova commented on a publication in the British press in her Telegram channel.
"The Telegraph: „Serbia could be denied entry into the European Union if its President Aleksandar Vucic confirms his intention to travel to Russia next month for the annual Victory Day parade in Moscow.“
If this is true, then Euro-Nazism is being revived before our eyes. This is how the fascists 80 years ago forced those they considered “second-class people” to renounce their homeland, ethnicity and faith,” the diplomat wrote.
Last night, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaia Kallas, quoted by the Bulgarian National Radio, warned that visits by leaders of EU candidate countries to the Victory Day parade in Moscow on May 9th would not be looked upon favorably.
She was categorical in relation to the announced intention of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić to attend the Victory Day parade in Moscow:
"It has been made very clear by various member states that any participation in parades or celebrations for May 9th in Moscow would not be looked upon favorably by Europe. Especially considering that Russia is waging a full-scale war on the continent. Her words provoked an angry reaction from Moscow. "The head of European diplomacy, Kaia Kallas, must be removed from office and brought before an international UN tribunal," wrote the chairman of the Russian State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, on his Telegram channel. "The out-of-control Russophobe has issued an ultimatum not only to EU countries, but also to candidates discussing issues of joining the EU, demanding that they refrain from visiting our country during the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. Kallas' statement is disrespectful to the memory of those who sacrificed themselves, saving the world from fascism. "Kalas should be removed from office and handed over to the UN international tribunal," he noted.
Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov was more moderate - he told journalists that the Kremlin "does not accept the harsh rhetoric of the head of the EU diplomatic service, Kaia Kalas, and does not consider it correct."
