Former British Prime Minister Liz Truss intends to launch her own social network this summer, which will be focused on freedom of speech, The Guardian reports, citing a statement by the politician made last weekend at a cryptocurrency conference in England.
Truss, who led the cabinet from September to October 2022, said that her resignation was prompted by the “elites“ who opposed the radical changes she proposed.
“It made me think that it is not enough to be in 10 Downing Street. Now I think we need a media network to spread the message to the people, to have a people's movement that actually demands the change of our leaders“, said the former Conservative leader, who is trying to establish herself on the far right of the political landscape. She warned that the “deep state“ and the mainstream media are suppressing free expression in the UK.
The newspaper did not report details of the new social network. However, as the article notes, Truss has apparently decided to follow in the footsteps of current US President Donald Trump, who launched the social network Truth Social in February 2022. It positions itself as a platform for free speech and was developed as an alternative to services such as X and Facebook, especially after Trump was banned from posting and commenting on these platforms.
Truss served as prime minister for 49 days in 2022, which is a record in British politics. During that time, her radical economic decisions brought the pound down to almost parity with the dollar and the euro, shocking markets.
