Russia and Belarus threaten retaliation: NATO, Poland and Baltics targeted in escalation - 1

The security services of Russia and Belarus are ready to take proactive action against the backdrop of growing tension in Europe caused by the war in Ukraine. This was stated by the director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service Sergei Naryshkin, quoted by Reuters, reports News.bg.

He warned that in the event of a possible attack on Russia or Belarus, Moscow would respond not only against the specific attackers, but also against NATO as a whole. According to him, Poland and the Baltic states will be “the first to suffer“.

According to Naryshkin, Poland's actions near the borders with Russia and Belarus contribute to the “acute“ and unstable security situation in Europe. He said that Warsaw "does not understand" the consequences of its militarization.

The intelligence chief reiterated that Russia's goals in the war in Ukraine remain unchanged - demilitarization, the so-called "denazification" and recognition of the current borders of the Russian Federation, including the annexed Ukrainian territories.

Naryshkin accused the Ukrainian government of deliberately prolonging the conflict in order to stay in power and avoid responsibility for its "criminal decisions."

Belarus, a close ally of Moscow, continues to support the Russian military campaign. President Alexander Lukashenko has allowed his country to be used as a base for Russian nuclear weapons, an action that has been sharply criticized by the West.

In addition, Minsk's support for the war has led to the country's exclusion from a number of international organizations, as well as criticism over the deportation of Ukrainian children.
