The US Supreme Court has temporarily suspended the deportation of thousands of Venezuelans, DPA reported.

Two of the nine judges disagreed with the decision, which suspends deportations until further notice, BTA reported.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed an emergency petition with the court yesterday to halt the upcoming deportations from Texas. According to media reports, the Venezuelans were to be sent by plane to Salvador, Central America. They were accused of being part of the criminal organization "Tren de Aragua". According to the ACLU, the trial against them was unfair.

"Tren de Aragua" is a violent Venezuelan criminal gang involved in human trafficking, drug trafficking and extortion, and is listed as a foreign terrorist organization by the United States.

The Supreme Court's decision did not make clear how much time the Venezuelans would be given to challenge the deportations. The Trump administration has not yet commented on the case.

Last month, U.S. authorities deported more than 200 Venezuelans and dozens of Salvadorans to El Salvador's most notorious high-security prison.
