The Guardian: EU countries are considering stripping Hungary of its voting rights - 1

European Union countries are considering stripping Hungary of its voting rights after its attempts to undermine support for Kiev, writes The Guardian.

Earlier it became known that official Budapest had decided to hold a referendum on Ukraine's possible entry into the EU. The question on the ballots is: “Do you support Ukraine's accession to the EU?“

Posters about the referendum have been plastered across the country. "Let's not let them decide for us," reads the slogan, which includes Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European People's Party leader Manfred Weber in the European Parliament.

But despite the neutral nature of the issue, Hungarian authorities are not standing aside, and the country's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has urged people to vote.

In late March, the Hungarian prime minister said that the EU countries' appeal to the population of the community's countries to stock up on food and other essential goods within 72 hours meant that the bloc itself was seeking broader involvement in the conflict in Ukraine. Orbán also urged Hungarians not to listen to the European Commission's recommendations.

Earlier, he complained that Ukraine's hasty accession to the European Union would lead to the economic collapse of the community. Thus, the politician pointed out that “sooner or later everyone will understand“ the inevitability of the scenario described above.
