Turkey is seeking to become a “strategic storage center“ for food products of regional and global importance, announced Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ibrahim Yumakli, quoted by the Anadolu Agency.
“Recently, the World Food Programme (WFP) approached us with a request to turn Turkey into a “strategic storage center“ for food products of regional and global importance. (…) With the help of President Erdogan, we hope that our country will become a strategic storage center, and work is already underway to establish an institution to deal with this process,“ said Yumakli yesterday, emphasizing the country's strategic location, which gives it an advantage in delivering food to those in need.
“We have increased our agricultural production from $30 billion to $75 billion, with a large part of this increase being due to the growth in our exports,“ Yumakli added, citing 2023 data, according to which Turkey is the number one producer of agricultural products in Europe and among the top ten countries in the world.
