By 2050, Greece will face a shortage of approximately 515,000 workers, as a result of the rapidly deteriorating demographic situation, reports the publication "Ta Nea", reports News.bg.
Even in a scenario in which migration flows increase by 700,000 people, the negative trend remains difficult to reverse - a small number of workers will have to support a growing number of pensioners.
This alarming conclusion stems from a new study by the Institute for Demographic Research and Studies. The report emphasizes that all recent forecasts for the period 2025-2050 are unanimous: the country's population will decline, with the only age group with a growing share being those over 65.
The number of adults over 65 is expected to increase by about 700,000, reaching approximately 3.15 million, which will create serious pressure on the country's labor market and social system.
