UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen attended the Future of Energy Security Summit in London today, where they spoke about the importance of moving away from energy dependence on Russian sources and their support for Ukraine, The Guardian reports.
Starmer said that "every family and every business in the UK has paid the price for Russia weaponising energy", adding:
''Europe must never again be in a position where Russia thinks it can blackmail us on energy and until Russia sits down to the table and agrees to a complete and unconditional end to fire.
We must continue to suppress their energy revenues, which still feed Putin's war chests.''
Starmer added that the UK and the EU were preparing for a long-term partnership that could begin even before the restart summit next month. He added that now "is the time to build a partnership with the EU that meets the needs of our time".
