A senior officer in the Russian armed forces was killed in a car explosion in the city of Balashikha in the Moscow region on Monday, Russian news channels „Mash“ and „Shot“ reported, as quoted by Reuters.
According to „Mash“ the officer killed was Yaroslav Moskalik – Deputy Head of the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.
Reuters notes that it cannot independently confirm this information.
There has been no official confirmation from the authorities yet of what exactly happened or the identity of the officer.
The Russian news channel “Baza“, which has sources in Russian law enforcement agencies, said that an explosive device in a parked car was remotely detonated when the officer, who lived nearby, walked past it.
