The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that Bulgarian citizens get vaccinated against yellow fever if they plan to travel to the Republic of Colombia, where a national state of emergency has been declared due to the increased number of cases of people diagnosed with the disease, writes BNR. According to data from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the most serious situation is currently in the Tolima region, in the west-central part of the country.
The situation center at our Foreign Ministry emphasizes that the risk of infection is extremely high, since the virus is transmitted through mosquito bites, which are widespread. The vaccine must be administered at least 14 days before the date of the planned trip - a period necessary for building immunity.
