Brake defect returns 1.5 million BMWs to workshops and halts deliveries of thousands of cars - 1

German carmaker BMW recalls 1.5 million cars and bans vehicle deliveries , which have not yet arrived to customers, due to a suspected problem with the brakes. The information is on DW.

It has been reported that there are problems with the Integrated Braking System (IBS). Warranty costs for technical recall measures are likely to reach several hundred million euros in the third quarter of the year.

In addition to the car recall, it is planned to suspend deliveries of 320,000 cars that have not yet been handed over to customers. Parts supplier Continental, which makes the integrated braking system for BMW, has in turn said the function is not working optimally.

This is a defect in an electronic component in the brand's cars that can damage the braking system. However, as noted by representatives of the supplier, no threat of reduction of braking efficiency below legal standards was detected.

BMW admits this will lead to negative global sales in the second half of the year.
