Toyota has revealed an urban electric crossover for Europe, dubbed the Urban Cruiser. The car features a spacious and flexible interior with a sliding rear seat system and two battery options - 49 kWh and 61 kWh, as well as front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.
Toyota says it will have 15 zero-emission vehicles in its lineup by 2026, including six battery electric vehicles that use a special platform.
The design is developed around the theme of "Urban Tech", the style gives a bold look from all sides. The front "hammer" - a modernist Toyota design - is a key element. The front and rear bumpers have a powerful relief image, and the arrangement of the taillights covers the entire width of the rear doors.
The compact dimensions of the Urban Cruiser are slightly larger than the hybrid compact SUV Toyota Yaris Cross:

The car's agility is reflected in the turning radius of just 5.2 meters. The wheels are 18- or 19-inch, depending on the equipment, which save weight and maintain the aerodynamics of the car. A wide palette of body colors will include two-tone options with a contrasting black roof.
The Urban Cruiser's relatively long wheelbase (+140 mm compared to the Yaris Cross) is the key to creating a spacious and multifunctional interior. Thanks to the sliding rear seat system, the distance between the front and rear passengers can be easily adjusted to create a space that matches that of much larger D-segment SUVs.
The Urban Cruiser will be available with two batteries and a choice of front-wheel or four-wheel drive. Both use lithium iron phosphate technology, which guarantees durability, safety and low cost. Acceleration is fast and linear, both when starting and overtaking.
The 49 kWh battery will be available exclusively in the FWD version with 144 hp according to DIN. For the front-wheel drive model, the 61 kWh battery produces 174 hp. power. As a true SUV, the Urban Cruiser will also be available with all-wheel drive. In this version, the 61 kWh battery provides 184 hp.
All versions of the Urban Cruiser are equipped with an energy-saving heat pump for the air conditioning system and a battery heater to optimize operation in cold conditions.
The car is built on a new platform designed for battery electric vehicles. It is strong but lightweight and provides a spacious interior with built-in protection for the vehicle's high-voltage parts. The design of the structure eliminates the need for crossbars in the floor, which frees up more space for the battery.
The dashboard seamlessly integrates a 10.25-inch digital display for the driver and a 10.1-inch multimedia display into one unit. The multimedia system is designed for fast and intuitive operation with satellite navigation, which uses cloud data to take into account the latest traffic information.
Integration with a smartphone is also provided, so that the driver has easy access to their favorite programs and services. Other available features, depending on model level, include a power driver's seat, a premium JBL audio system, and a panoramic roof.
